The statistic says that 32% of New Year’s Resolutions are usually broken by the end of January.
But it’s only the month of January coming to an end – not the whole year! You can still catch up with your plans and achieve goals to make your life better.
Let’s make an audit of our New Year’s Resolution each month to make sure we are moving along with positive changes and consequently a happy & fulfilling year!
Come back to the list you happily built up whilst inspired by the New Year celebratory atmosphere. How would you score the performance of EACH POINT in your list?
- Have you been following each point exactly as you planned?
- If not then have you been following it at all or not?
Celebration is an important part of making progress. All your points on the list that you have performed well NEED appraisal. Do not forget to share with your family & friends how well you have done and to say thank you to everyone who supported and helped you to follow those dreams.
In case you find yourself thinking “I haven’t done anything worth celebrating” ensure you are not being too critical of yourself and instead enjoy this end-of-month revision of the list remembering ‘New Year’s resolutions’ are for a whole year not one month.
Now let’s come back to our challenging points in the list; they should be reviewed with the questions:
- Do I really still need these changes or not? How highly am I motivated for this? Am I happy without them or not?
- What were the reasons of not being able to make the thing happen? Lack of time? Another plans or commitments? Low mood? Getting bored? Demands too much money? Unexpected new circumstances?
WRITE THEM DOWN as you will need these reasons to help yourself re-build your plan for more effective use going forward.
Here we go… Now it is really easy to schedule your next month activity to get closer to your goals and ultimately happiness!
If it is not feasible to visit your gym 5 times per week as you planned initially then maybe you should schedule your fitness workouts for 2 times per week at the gym and add more home workouts or exercises on-the-go? Actually small steps towards new habits, like anything else are always the best solution; little and often is our motto. Like our FitMama App; if you are scheduling in your post-natal exercises, use FitMama for 5 or 10 minutes at a time
Were the activities scheduled at the right time? Probably you’ve got a better vision of your weekly life now and reading books is better over the weekend trips or at sports classes of your children or before a nights sleep. And it might appear that ringing your mum or a friend is better when you are cooking rather than playing with your baby?
Whatever are your insights – SCHEDULE every point of your new plan in your Calendar. Now your main activity for your happiness is planned!
Human reaction on the same stimulus lowers after a few repetitions of the stimulus; In other words, we stop reacting on our reminders after a while don’t we? So, you need to refresh the reminders. Do spend some time on this and entertain yourself by choosing another ringtone on your phone, setting up another time of the day to revive your reaction on the reminders associated with your positive goals.
Thanks to the Social media all the day-to-day information that really works for your motivation is their for your pickings. If something did not work for you in January or next months then pick up new candidates to help you move forward to your Better New life this year. And don’t forget to schedule your next month’s revision of your New Year’s Resolution plan at the end of every month!
